Zero Week a Week of Ones

Jonathan Gray

The annual kick-off the start of the season in the Lone Star State has been dubbed ‘Zero Week', but for the Scout.com Midlands recruiting team it will end up being a week for the number one. Check out where we will be.

Thursday

Clear Springs @ Pearland Dawson

This one is a real barn burner as both teams are stacked up. Clear Springs should have a stacked defense powered by three high division one caliber players and Dawson has been turning in to a real powerhouse program. Both teams won more than 10 games and made a push in the playoffs in '09.

Some Prospects of Note: Trevon Randle, Donnie Baggs, Howard Matthews, Haywood Jeffires, Marcus Vaughn, Max Brown

#1: Trevon Randle is ranked the top outside linebacker in the state.

Plano West @ Arlington Martin

What a way to start off the season. This one should be very interesting. Martin rolled off a nice 8-5 season one year ago before being ousted by Euless Trinity in the playoffs. Plano West started off strong but dropped three consecutive games to end the season at 5-6. Both teams return some talent and should have a chance to win the game.

Some Prospects of Note: Travis Cross, Nathan Broussard, Bryce Cottrell, Danzel Williams, Russell Bellomy, Devonta Burns, Deryck Gildon

#1: West had the number one player in the country one year ago in Jackson Jeffcoat and this year these two teams have some excellent upper tier D1 talents.

Friday

Stephenville @ Aledo

This one is easily one of the best match-ups in the state. These two teams battled in two tight ones one year ago and Aledo came out on top in both games. But Stephenville was only plays away from turning the tables. Both teams should play sound football even though it is the first week.

Some Prospects of Note: Jonathan Gray, Conner Washington, Aiavion Edwards, James Myles

#1: Gray is the odds on favorite to be the top player in the Midlands for the Class of 2012.

Memorial @ Westfield

Both of these teams made it in to the playoffs one year ago and it is a strong way to kick off the 2010 season. It will be interesting to see how the middle of the Westfield defense, which should be the strength of the team, deals with the strong pound it up the middle offense of Memorial.

Some Prospects of Note: Desmond Jackson, Anthony Smith, James Rushing

#1: "Tank" Jackson will get the chance to prove he is the top defensive tackle in Texas.

Saturday

Cibolo Steele @ SA Madison

In a nationally televised game the two San Antonio powerhouses will match up running games as Malcolm Brown is set to pit his talents against Aaron Green. Both teams have a strong supporting casts as well. It will be interesting to see how each team deals with the pressure of being on television and who has prepared the best to win. Some Prospects of Note: Aaron Green, Andre Wiggins, Ryan Simmons, Marquise Anderson, Malcolm Brown

#1: Brown is rated as the top running back in Texas and Aaron Green is not too far behind.

South Houston @ Atascocita

Atascocita is coming off of a pretty good season where they advanced in to the playoffs, but they will miss the offensive presence of Everrett Pleasant. South Houston is looking to rebound from a 3-8 where they struggled consistently and did not make playoffs.

Some Prospects of Note: Kenneth Marshall, Leroy Scott, Earnest Carrington, Nathan Gutekunst

#1: Scott is rated the top lock-down corner in Texas and the Midland region.
