Cottrell A Name to Watch
After a second half surge Plano West was able to fend off Arlington Martin and cling on to a 16-14 victory when a last second field goal by Martin fell short of its mark. After the game Bryce Cottrell, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect was ecstatic that they were able to shut down Martin on the last drive to force the field goal attempt with the game on the line. "It felt really good, especially getting the win," Cottrell exclaimed. It is early in the recruiting process but Cottrell stood at Oklahoma's summer camp and he has a number of other top programs keeping tabs on his progress. "Texas, OU, UCLA and a few other schools," Cottrell responded when asked what schools were showing him the most early attention. "It's pretty good (the early recruiting attention)." Cottrell said that he had a good time at the Oklahoma camp in June. "It was really good getting to work with coach (Brent) Venables and be around all of the coaches. They are all really good coaches too." Cottrell recently hit a growth spurt that helped him reach his current size and after playing more skilled positions as a youngster he is now developed in to a pass rushing outside linebacker in Plano West's defensive schemes. He is playing a more physical game and he will likely project out in college as a defensive end. Once he becomes more comfortable with his new position and 6'3 frame it would not be a surprise to see him evolve in to a recruit that will garner an abundance of attention. "Tackling and rushing the quarterback," Cottrell said when asked about his biggest strengths at outside linebacker. "I look up to Jackson Jeffcoat. I look up to his leadership and he is physical and big."
