FSU commit plans to take all 5 visits
Derrick Mitchell took several unofficial visits this summer for camps and he talked about those. "I went to Clemson, South Carolina, Florida State for a week and I went to Auburn," Mitchell said. "Clemson was very intense; there was a lot of great competition. The coaching staff showed me a lot of love. South Carolina, we didn't work out, we just took a visit, it was kinda during the Clemson visit. We walked around with Coach Spurrier, he is cool and he recruits real hard out of First Coast. At Florida State we did a couple of workouts, and I got real close with Coach Haggins. It was cool, I just worked out real hard and chilled with the coaching staff and all that. It was real fun." Mitchell, 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds, is committed to Florida State but says he plans on taking all five of his official visits. "I don't have them set up yet, but I will take my five. I am taking them to Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Alabama, and either FIU or Florida." Mitchell remains committed to the Noles, however, and he talked about that and the other schools he has interest in. FSU: "I am committed. I love it there; it is a real family environment there." "Clemson is recruiting me really hard, my teammate Tervaris Barns went there and I want to see what made him de-committ from Florida State and go there." "Alabama is real cool, I watch them on t.v. They won a national championship last year. The recruiting coach wants me to get up there and see the campus; he says I will love it." "Georgia Tech, Coach Sewak is probably the hardest person recruiting me right now. We are friends on facebook and everything. I took an unofficial visit there last year and loved the technology program. I love the school background and how they won the ACC last year." "FIU, they were the first school to offer me, I have to show them my love and my appreciation." Mitchell says a big reason for his commitment to FSU is because of Nole DL coach Odell Haggins. "I sat down in his office, he is a real straight forward and real truthful guy. Him and my dad went to Florida State together in the late 80s and they were best friends at Florida State. So it has always been a family connection. He puts defensive tackles in the league, he knows what he is doing and I think Florida State will be a perfect program." Mitchell, who claims offers from all of his favorites, talked about his goals for this season. "I wanna break First Coast's sack record which is 17 and lead my team to a state championship. Make my teammates better and free up my linebackers to make some more tackles." Inside the classroom, Mitchell claims a 3.7 GPA and a 17 ACT score.
