There might not be a bigger microscope in college football then the one Joe Bauserman will see in Columbus. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound quarterback was the chosen one of Jim Tressel but the Buckeye Nation had their sights set on a bigger prize.

The Buckeye Nation was thrown for a loop last week when the found out that the quarterback that had committed to Ohio State wasn’t Anthony Morelli or Robert Reid but Florida’s Joe Bauserman.

While most of the Bucknuts are begging Jim Tressel and his staff to offer Kentucky signal caller Brian Brohm, what they got was a relative unknown who transferred to Tallahassee (Lincoln) from a small school in Virginia.

Bauserman stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 215-pounds. He runs a 4.7-40 yard dash and in 2002 he passed for 3,004 yards and 28 touchdowns. He was named 3rd team all-state in talent rich Florida.

“I had scholarship offers from Clemson, Tennessee, Ohio State and a few smaller schools,” said Bauserman.

“I camped at Ohio State and felt very comfortable there. They are the defending national champions and the tradition at Ohio State is second to none.

“Coach (Jim) Tressel called me in May and told me that they (OSU) liked me a lot. I felt a lot of love when I camped there. It just felt right. My commitment is solid.”

Bauserman is also a major league baseball prospect and he could get drafted next June. Will it be football or baseball?

“Depends on where I’m drafted.” Bauserman said. “I like baseball but I also like football. If I get drafted high and the money is right, I’ll probably play baseball.

“As of now, my focus is on my upcoming season and my commitment to Ohio State. I’m excited to be a Buckeye.”
