Clark Crum, the #76 prospect, in the Midwest, according to Scout.com, had 10 scholarship offers heading into the month of July. The 6-foot-7, 280-pounder from Dublin (Ohio) Scioto told Scout.com that a late June visit to Blacksburg, Virginia made him decide to put recruiting behind him for good by giving Frank Beamer and the Virginia Tech Hokies his verbal commitment.
“I just fell in love with Virginia Tech,” Clark Crum said.
“I liked the coaches at Virginia Tech. They are all great guys and made me feel at home. I also liked the campus at Virginia Tech, it’s kind of secluded from the city.
“I also felt that the combination of athletics and academics at Virginia Tech was something that I couldn’t pass up.”
Crum had scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, Boston College, Illinois, Duke, Indiana, Iowa State, Akron, Miami (Ohio), Cincinnati and Ohio University.
“I feel that I could’ve been offered a lot more scholarships if I had waited to commit.” Crum explained.
“Ohio State maybe would have offered if I had a good senior season but I wanted to commit early. That’s another thing that I liked about Virginia Tech, they were willing to work with me, take my positives, and make me better.”
Crum will be a three-year varsity starter for Scioto in 2005. He was named all-district as a junior.
