One of the top athletes on the West Coast next year will be Dennis Keyes, 6-2, 180 pounds from Van Nuys (Calif.) Birmingham. Keyes will be a national recruit and is already getting interest from schools all over the country.

Keyes has starred on both sides of the ball since his sophomore year and earned 1st team All-City, All-Area and All-State Underclass honors last season. He'll be one of the top running backs and safety prosepcts next season and has the tools to play for any college in America.

At 6-2, 180 pounds, Keyes is a big time hitter in the secondary and can really come up and lay the wood to opposing ball carriers. He also has the speed and cover skills to run with the swiftest of wide outs but some feel he might be even better on the offensive side of the ball.

"Running back is my favorite position and where I want to play in college," Keyes said. "I like defense too but I like having the ball in my hands and making something happen."

Keyes made something happen to the tune of 1,300 yards on the ground on 156 caries (8.3 yard ave.) to complement his 150 tackles on defense. He also added a kickoff return for a touchdown and never left the field covering kicks and punts as well.

On the recruiting front, Keyes is hearing from the entire Pac 10 plus Nebraska, Colorado, LSU, Wisconsin and Michigan.

"I've always liked USC, that's been my favorite school since I was a kid," Keyes said. "I had an uncle who went there and I just always wanted to play for them. I also like UCLA, Washington, Arizona and Arizona State.

"I like the Pac 10 and I would like to stay on the West Coast if possible."

Academically, Keyes is carrying a 2.9 GPA and is planning to major in Culinary Arts in college. He'll attend the Nike Camp in Los Angeles April 13 but is unsure about the rest of his summer camp plans.
