Anthony Harris, a 6-foot, 195-pound, safety, from Columbus (Ohio) Brookhaven, already has a Big Ten offer. Several schools have shown a serious interest in Harris and those schools could very well offer a scholarship during the ’05 season.
“I have a scholarship offer from Illinois right now,” Anthony Harris said.
“My favorites are Illinois, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Virginia Tech.
“I camped this summer at Illinois, Michigan State and Ohio State. I had a lot of schools show interest in May and I feel that once I qualify, I’ll get more offers.”
Harris will need to re-take his ACT test and should become a full qualifier by signing day. He’s a three-year varsity starter for Brookhaven.
As a junior Harris played tight end and defensive back. He had 75 tackles and 3 interceptions on defense. On offense, Anthony had 15 catches for 325 yards.
Illinois is the only school to have offered Harris a scholarship. We asked what kind of interest Anthony has in the Fighting Illini at this time.
“I like Illinois a lot,” said Harris. “Coach (Ron) Zook actually offered me at my school in May. I camped at Illinois in the summer but didn’t get to see a whole lot of the campus.
“I like my recruiting coach (Mike Mallory). We’ve had some pretty good one-on-one conversations. Illinois is recruiting me as a safety.
“Coach Zook was good at Florida and he’s bringing a lot of enthusiasm to Illinois. I don’t plan on committing until after the season. I need to get my academics squared away and I want to take some visits.”
Harris also letters in track. He carries a 3.0 GPA in the classroom.
