This year early commitments are becoming the rule, not the exception, in the Southwest region. Already, 46 of the June Southwest Hot 100 are already committed, including 19 to the national champion Texas Longhorns.

"The Texas Longhorns are at it again. Last year they had all but a few guys committed before the season started last year and this year they may be completely finished before the season starts," said Jeremy Patterson, Southwest regional editor for Scout.com. "As of right now the Horns are sitting at 21 commitments and only have a few offers out on the table."
That list includes the Southwest region's top prospect Tray Allen, an offensive lineman from South Grand Prarie High in Grand Prarie, Tex.
"The Horns have dominated in-state recruiting so far, the Texas A&M Aggies are having a solid year as well," Patterson added. "Last season the Aggies had a tough year in recruiting, but this season they have gone out and wrapped up some top in-state players early. The biggest name player the Aggies have is linebacker Derrick Stephens of Houston, who is actually the only in the state of Texas with an offer currently on the table from the Horns, that is committed to another school."
Oklahoma and LSU are also doing well early in the process. The Sooners have wrapped up four commitments in the Southwest 100, including the top safety in the nation with in-state talent Austin Box. LSU sits behind the Horns and Aggies with five commitments on the list.
