Eric Berry, the nation's top cornerback and a Tennessee lean since early this season, decided to act on that and committed to the Vols earlier today.
"I'm going to Tennessee," said the U.S. Army All-American from Creekside High in Fairburn, Georgia. "The guy you just got off the phone with is like a brother to me. We sat down and he just talked to me about my life and where I wanted to go with it. That just put me over the fence."
Eric Berry, who was close to setting up all his visits decided he did not want to take those knowing he was just leading the coaches on when his mind was made up.
"I just felt it. It was a lot of factors, the coaches they are genuine and straight-forward.
In committing to Tennessee, Berry becomes a legacy recruit as his father played for and was a captain for the Vols.
"Dad going there was a factor, and wanted to fill his shoes. I have some pretty big shoes to fill, but it should be fun."
Berry, a quarterback and safety in high school, plans to play on both sides of the ball including a chance to play quarterback.
"Yeah, in certain situations like McFadden. That's okay. Whatever it takes to win. They told me the plan, so I was okay with that.
"They want me to play both sides. Both corners left and they're in need of some defensive backs. They are losing one wide receiver and may be losing another, so hopefully I can go in there and just compete for some playing time."
No other official visits are planned, as Berry considers himself a solid commitment to the Vols.
"I'm just going to take the trip up to Knoxville in January."
