Maurice Harris (LB, Homestead, FL) - The 1st Team All-State
and All-Dade selection had his two finalist in his house yesterday.
"We
had Coach Kehoe from Ole Miss in last night and the Wisconsin coach, Coach D or
something like that. I forget his name, their recruiting coach for this area.
He also came in," added Homestead head coach, Bobby McCray, who also is Maurice's
legal guardian and great uncle.
Maurice has taken four official visits
to Wisconsin, Rutgers, Arizona State, and Ole Miss. Will he take a fifth visit
this weekend?
"No, I think he is finished with his visits. He is concentrating
on wrestling right now. He beat somebody last week that was 31-0, the defending
state champ. I think he knows he has a chance to win it all this year. He was
just named to the 1st Team All-State squad for the entire state of Florida, and
he wants to win the wresting championship and be known as the best athlete in
Florida. I do not think he will take anymore visits."
How did Coach
Kehoe's inhome visit go last night?
"He came and talked to him at
school and then he came by the house. We have known Coach Kehoe for a long time,
since he was at Miami. He just basically wanted to know where Ole Miss stands.
Right now, Maurice has not made a decision, but it is down to Wisconsin and Ole
Miss. He will hopefully make a decision next week or a few days before signing
day."
What about the Wisconsin inhome visit?
"Well, I
was not present during that visit. He just basically came down to see where they
stood too. Basically the same thing as Ole Miss. They wanted to know when he was
going to make a final decision."
When it comes decision time; what
will be the main factors?
"Who has his major, which will be Business
Management. We want to see their depth chart. Who is coming back at his position?
We are going to look at his position coach, graduation rate, and then we will
take all of the positives and negatives and see who has the most pluses. We will
go back and revisit his official visit at both schools and put that into perspective.
Then, the final decision will be his to make. He is a very mature young man who
has gone through more than what most people go through in 80 years of living.
He can handle it."
Maurice had 112 tackles, 12 sacks, 4 forced fumbles,
and 1 interception last year. He was named 1st Team All-Dade, 1st Team All-State
for the State of Florida, Defensive MVP, Homestead News Leader's All-Star
Team and was selected to play in the All-American bowl and Dade/Broward All-star
classic.
Harris
carries a 3.0 GPA and has already made a qualifying score on the SAT test.
