In game three of the Kirk Herbstriet Challenge at Nippert Stadium, passes were thrown all over the field as the two teams combined for nearly 500 yards through the air. In the end, it was the Diablos, behind junior QB Allan Bridgford who pulled out the narrow victory.
Down 26-22 in the 4th quarter, Cincinnati Moeller mounted a drive. With their backs against the wall, the Crusaders converted clutch play after clutch play including a screen pass on 4th down. But with just five seconds left, Ross Olotorik’s pass was just out of reach and Mission Viejo went home with the victory.
It was fitting the final play was a pass as both teams did their share of damage through the air. Mission Viejo junior QB Allan Bridgford passed for 282 yards and two touchdowns including the go ahead score to WR Kevin Chandler with just over two minutes left.
Chandler, who had 7 receptions for 140 yards and the score, along with Alex Mascarenas more than made up for the loss of star receiver Warren Reuland who left the game early in the 4th quarter with an injury and did not return.
To that point, Reuland, the Stanford commit had 2 receptions for 73 yards and the Diablos’ initial touchdown of the day.
Olotorik went 16 of 29 for 179 yards and the touchdown and Tim Uecker lead the Crusader ground attack with 101 yards and a score.
Video and pictures from the game will be up later tonight.
