Berwyn, Pa., native Trevor Behmke gave his verbal commitment to Miami(OH) over a month ago and we recently had time to catch up with him and find out what drove him to make the choice that he did. Behmke is a player that was being recruited on both sides of the ball at many positions by different programs, but will line up at tight end for the RedHawks.

Trevor Behmke, a 6-foot-4, 254-pound tight end from Conestoga High School committed to Miami(OH) on August 28th and spoke to us tonight about that commitment. Behmke is a player that brings great size to the tight end position and has room to grow and while his profile shows a 5.12 40-yard dash time at the Scout.com Combine in Randolph, N.J., he is plenty faster then that as he was running with a broken bone in his foot at the time.

“When I went to Miami it really blew me away both as a program and as a university,” Behmke stated. “It was the first time I had been to the Midwest and I was just really surprised by how beautiful both the area surrounding the campus and the campus itself was. I guess I was expecting cornfields or something, but when I got there that was far from the case.”

“The people there were also extremely nice and everyone takes great pride in the football program,” Behmke explained. “I felt like I fit in on campus which was very important and the members of the team I met were also good guys. I got to meet with a number of the coaches on campus and all of them made me feel extremely welcome and also showed that they had a great knowledge of the game. Miami is also the top team in the MAC East right now and with all due respect to those other programs I think they’re the premier program in the conference.”

Behmke was first diagnosed with tendonitis in his foot and continued to camp on it, however it was later found that he had broken a bone months prior. He had surgery to fix the bone three weeks ago and plans to start physical therapy in November after his cast is removed.
