The 6' 2", 205 pound State Champion signal caller
out of Louisville made his second unofficial visit in as many weeks to Oxford
to talk with the new Ole Miss staff.
"I went up there this morning
to meet Coach (Kent) Austin," commented Clayton Moore.
What did the
two discuss?
"We talked about what he had accomplished as a player
at Ole Miss and in the CFL and what he had accomplished as a coach in the CFL.
Then we got to talking about how he evaluates QB's and how he handles players
and how Coach Nutt handles players. I just think with that staff, they are going
to turn it around."
How does Coach Austin evaluate QB's?
"He
said you can not always judge a QB by the highlight film alone. He wants to see
the QB in person. He wants to see how they walk, talk, dress, just how they carry
themselves. He also wants to see how they throw the ball in person. And he said
he wants to see how they handle themselves in pressure situations. If they throw
a pick, do they blow up or respond? Just things like that."
What impressed
Moore the most about the new offensive coordinator?
"A bunch of things,
really. But mostly the biggest thing I liked about Coach Austin was his honesty.
It was not about him, it is about the players. They are going to take care of
their players. He was real straight forward. He did not play around. Coach just
jumped right into it. He was kind of soft spoken too, but spoke with great confidence.
You can tell he was a great QB in his day just by being around him. He is very
confident."
Moore left Ole Miss with a good taste in his mouth.
"I
guess the best way for me to put it is that I am very happy with my situation
with Ole Miss. I really like it up there a whole/whole lot. I have good vibes
about Ole Miss."
Clayton threw for 3,046 yards, rushed for 850, and
totaled 40 total TD's last season.
