Last year Neumann-Goretti sent a jumbo-sized defensive end to West Virginia University and it looks like the Mountaineers are trying to tap that resource again, extending a scholarship offer to Kadeem Custis, a teammate of Chris Palmer at the Philadelphia school. WVU isn’t the only school interested in Custis though, which we found out in an interview with him tonight.
Kadeem Custis has a large frame at 6-foot-5, 270 pounds and could be recruited to play offensive line, defensive tackle or defensive end at the collegiate level. At this point his sole offer has come from West Virginia to play defensive end in their three-man front, however there are plenty of other schools showing him interest right now.
“I got the offer from West Virginia a long time ago,” Custis said. “I went down there last year with Chris Palmer and liked it a lot. I’m going down to see their spring game and learn more about them. The coaching staff there does a great job making me feel like part of the family and that is the main reason I like West Virginia.”
“Obviously you’re also looking at a very successful program,” Custis added. “They players are very talented, but they’re also very personable and I really enjoyed hanging out with them on campus last year. Chris being down there definitely factors in my decision a bit, but that family atmosphere was the biggest deal.”
Other schools recruiting the jumbo-athlete at this point are Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Connecticut, Maryland, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan, Pittsburgh and North Carolina State. He has camp invites from every one of those programs. We asked him if any stand out right now.
“Pitt definitely stands out because they are a good, up and coming program with a lot of talent,” Custis stated. “I also like Head Coach Rich Rodriguez a lot since I got to meet him at WVU, so I like Michigan a lot too.”
At this point Custis has no idea where other schools would like him to play, but seems pretty open to playing any position.
