Scout.com learned Tuesday that Mitch Mathews, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound receiver prospect from Southridge High School in Beaverton, Ore. earned his first scholarship offer. Mathews has a ton of camp appearances planned, and if all go as well as his first one, he'll have a handful of offers by the end of June.

"We went down to UNLV on Sunday and worked out on Monday," Mathews told Scout.com. "(UNLV Offensive Coordinator) Coach (Todd) Berry and (receivers) Coach (Kris) Cinkovich told me to call them up at noon today, so I did. They told me they were offering me a scholarship and that the written one would be in the mail today or tomorrow and that I should expect it this week."

UNLV was Mathews' first camp stop. He'll be attending BYU's junior day on Friday and Oregon State on Saturday, followed by trips to Idaho, Boise State, UCLA and then BYU's four-day camp at the end of the month.

Mathews' brother Marcus signed with BYU in 2007 and is currently serving his mission in Stockholm, Sweden. Mitch believes that serving his own mission is in his future plans too, and the schools that are actively recruiting him understand that. That includes the Runnin' Rebels.

"They've been one of my favorite schools," he said. "I've liked them from the beginning."
