One of South Panola's top linemen updated us with his latest recruiting news.
How did you enjoy your camp at Southern Miss and Memphis?
"They
both were very well organized camps I liked Memphis more because I got to talk
to the coach and got coached up individually when I made a mistake during a drill
which I made very few mistakes," added Marjarvin Chapman. "I really
like Coach Morrow the O-line coach we clicked at the camp." Are there
any new schools showing up on the recruiting radar?
"Yes, there is
Georgia Tech, Toledo, Boston College, and Florida Atlantic, but out of these new
schools Georgia Tech is showing the most interest in me."
Talk more
about Georgia Tech.
"I like the style of Coach Wommack's defense."
What is your dream school and have they or anyone offered you yet?
"Mississippi
State is my dream school. I grew up a big Bulldog fan and I hope they offer. If
they offer, I will probably commit as soon as they offer me. Memphis is my top
choice right now. Me and Coach Joseph talk a lot on the phone, and I believe they
will be the first to offer me."
What else stands out about MSU?
"I
like the coaching staff, and I believe Coach Croom has them headed in the right
direction."
And Memphis
"I like the location and the relationship
I have with the recruiting coordinator, and I love the campus."
Who
else are you in interested in?
"Ole Miss. I like their location. It
is only like 25 min from and I have family that play football for them. I like
Southern Miss too. I have always been a fan of Southern Miss and this past year
they signed a lot of players from my school. Clemson is cool. I like their prestige
and all the exposure they get. I love that about them. LSU is up there. Year in
and year out they have a very good shot of not only winning the SEC but winning
a National Championship. Florida Atlantic, they are up and coming program and
I want to learn more about them. And some D 2 and D 3 schools have been looking
at me. I'm not really sure what level they are they are Jamestown College and
Hillsdale College.
Which school or schools would you like to see recruiting
you harder?
"LSU and Arkansas cause they are in the SEC, the best
and most competitive conference in America." What are Arkansas' positives?
"They
are just a SEC school, and they were one of the first SEC schools to start recruiting
me."
Who is the best player you have faced?
"Montez Philips,
no doubt about it, he can run and throw very good. He reminds me of Vince Young
and Mike Vick but he doesn't run as much as Mike Vick." Who do you
think will be the toughest team you will face this year?
"There are
about three or four answers to this question. Apopka (FL), Olive Branch, Tupelo,
and Columbus but every game will be tough this year. We just have to play hard
until the whistle blows every play of the game and we should be just fine."
If not Marjarvin Chapman who will be Mr. Football 2009?
"David Conner. Not just because he's my teammate and first cousin, he can flat out play.
David has a nose for the ball, and when he gets to the ball carrier, he gets there
in an angry mood. But there are a lot of players deserving of this award, and
I wish all of them the best of luck this season. What is your current academic
standing?
"I have a 3.1 GPA, and I took the ACT in December and made
a 17 on it. I retook it this past Saturday, and I believe I made at least a 20
on it this time around."
