Montez Phillips having second thoughts

Montez had a chance to sleep on his commitment to MSU and woke up with a change of heart.
"I made a mistake, to be honest," added Montez Phillips.
"I am having second thoughts now. It is not solid anymore. I kind of rushed
into things."
So what now?
"I got my coach to call Coach
Nutt this morning. I got on the phone with Coaches Nutt and Markuson from Ole Miss and asked them if they were still interested in me and that I had made a
mistake. Coach Nutt said they were more motivated than ever to get me. He told
me that he knew I had a lot of pressure on me and that the door was still open
for me to come over there."
Why was there pressure in the first
place to make an early decision?
"I just wanted to get out of town
(Oxford). That was basically it. I wanted to get out of Oxford and MSU was going
to give me that opportunity. But I am open now. I have all the way until February
to make a decision. I am going to go to the Ole Miss camp on July 26th and go
from there. I want to see how the coaches interact with the players. That is the
main thing."
The position factor is still weighing on Montez's mind.
"I
have until February to decide, but I am 50/50 right now. Part of me wants to keep
playing QB because that is what I have been playing since I started playing football.
MSU wants me at WR and Ole Miss wants me at QB. I do not know. Like I said, I
have until February to figure it out."
Phillips would like to be listed
as a soft commitment for now.
"I guess you can still list me as a
commitment, like a soft commitment, but I am still open and I should know something
more solid after the Ole Miss camp."
