Because of extremely talented juniors such as Michael Campanaro, Leron Eaddy and Malek Redd, River Hill High School product Kevin Johnson did not get to play varsity as a sophomore in 2007. That has not stopped him from garnering interest from schools however, as he has already impressed at two camps and has three schools showing serious interest.

Kevin Johnson has good height for a cornerback at 5-foot-10.5, however he will work on adding muscle mass over the next two seasons as he only weighs in at a slight 145 pounds currently. The Clarksville, Md., attended two camps this summer and lit it up regardless of his weight however, leading to coaching staffs showing some extra interest in him.

“I went to Connecticut for camp and thought I did really well,” Johnson stated. “The coaching staff actually pulled me to the side a couple of times and spoke with me about some things. After the camp they told me that I could expect them to recruit me really hard if I made sure to put on a bit of weight. I liked it a lot there because the campus was tight and the coaches were all really down to earth.”

“I also camped at Boston College and that went really well too,” Johnson explained. “I talked to Coach Ryan Day a lot during the one on ones and they had me work out at both cornerback and wide receiver. Coach Day said that they’ll definitely be watching me early next season and that he expects film from me in September. I train with Josh Haden and his father, so I’ve heard good things about the school and I was really impressed with their stadium and facilities.”

Akron is another school that is showing early interest in Johnson and more are sure to follow if he starts to add weight and at least get up in the 160-pound to 170-pound range.
