The standout defensive back out of Whitehaven (TN) was unable to participate in the Ole Miss Sr camp last Saturday but he did watch from the sidelines.
This
was Gene Robinson's third camp to attend at Ole Miss this summer. What was he
keying in on this trip?
"I wanted to get an inside scoop on the facilities,
and I got a personal tour from Coach (Derrick) Nix while they were running the
40's and doing all of that stuff," added the 6' 1", 170 pounder."I
also wanted to root on my teammates, like WR Jeremy Jones. He had a nice
showing, and we have a junior DB named Chaz Moore. He did pretty well too."
What
type of injury did Robinson sustain?
"I bruised my knee at the Vandy
camp. It was just a bruise though. We start two a days tomorrow, so I did not
want to risk anymore damage. The football season is too close."
What
did the Ole Miss coaches say to Robinson during the visit?
"They were
glad to have me down. They said I did not have to work out because they already
knew what I could do. I went to their passing camp and 3 Day camp in June, so
they know what is up."
What stood out about Ole Miss during the trip?
"Their
depth chart. We (Derrick Webb and Gene Robinson) think it is a place for early
opportunity."
Anymore camps for Gene this summer?
"I went
to the Vandy and Notre Dame camps, but that is it. Notre Dame said they are going
to get back at me at the end of this month. They were done with their cornerback
recruiting, but when I ran a 4.48 in front of them and had a good showing in the
individual drills, they said I opened it back up. They have a couple more offers
out there, and if they do not take it, I am going to get mine as early as this
week."
Which colleges are now at the top of Robinson's list?
"All
of the schools who have offered me, Ole Miss, Alabama, Vandy, Memphis, Colorado,
North Carolina, La Tech, USM, and MTSU. Arkansas is also suppose to offer me,
but they really want to see me in person because they were not able to see me
this spring."
Gene reported last time that he was leaning towards
Alabama; does that still not hold true?
"Alabama is still the leader,
but they are starting to even up, but Alabama is still at the top."
Who
is making the jump to even things up?
"Everyone is staying the same,
for the most part. I just want to see the campuses, but I love the coaching staffs
at Colorado and North Carolina. But I also like the education at Alabama and Ole
Miss is where my partner (Derrick Webb) wants to go. They are all still up there."
