In the finale the Princeton High School Vikings clashed with the Moeller High School Crusaders. Talent was abundant in this one, and there was never a dull moment in Moeller’s 27-17 victory in the team’s season openers. One thing is certain about the Princeton Vikings- Spencer Ware can and most likely will do absolutely anything and everything. The junior quarterback threw passes, ran rushes, ever returned a punt in the valiant losing effort. As a passer Ware completed 14-of-39 pass attempts for 275 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Running the ball he collected 123 yards and a touchdown on 24 rushes, constantly shaking and eluding defenders trying to stop him. It seemed the only thing Ware couldn’t do was win the game for Princeton single handedly, though he certainly did try. Senior wide receivers Jeff Duckworth and Jordan Hopgood – currently holding a Nebraska offer – each reeled in seven catches from Ware. Hopgood took his for 106 yards while Duckworth went for 178 and a touchdown. Moeller’s combination of quarterbacks Andrew Hendrix and David Whitehead threw for a combined 12-of-17 passing and 136 yards, mostly to receiver Tony Harris, who took his four receptions for 73 yards. But the bulk of the Crusader’s offense came on the ground from senior running back Patrick Blanks. Blanks carried the football a daunting 30 times, collecting 99 yards and three Moeller touchdown runs of one, four, and ten yards in the process. Ware and co. for Princeton seemed to moving up and down the field all night, totaling 426 total yards of offense compared to Moeller’s 217. The Vikings just couldn’t seem to take advantage of all of their chances, and the second half belonged solely to the Crusaders other than a 75-yard TD strike from Ware to Duckworth. Princeton entered halftime holding a 10-7 lead, but thing opened up for Moeller’s patient offense in the second half and the Crusaders were able to pull away. Copyright © Scout.com and SuperPrep.com
