Nico Johnson, Scout.com five-star middle linebacker from Andalusia, (Ala.), has made a commitment to the University of Alabama. The commitment comes the week after the Crimson Tide defeated Clemson 34-10 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

"Nico committed to Alabama tonight," said Michael Johnson, Nico Johnson's older brother. "He called Alabama and told them he was ready to commit."

"Nico spoke with coach [Nick] Saban. Coach Saban and the rest of the coaches were very happy. They were all very excited about Nico's decision."

Johnson grew up a fan of the Tide, and Alabama was considered the team to beat for the five-star since the beginning of the recruiting process.

"He wanted to go to a school that pretty much is locked in to contend for a national championship," Michael Johnson said. "Why not go to Alabama? The game the other night was awesome."

"The entire Alabama coaching staff is very respectful. Every time we went down to Alabama they did nothing but made us feel at home. That was a big part of why Nico committed."

"Everybody is excited in the family. We are all very excited. Nico may go down to Alabama this weekend, but I won't be able to go until next week."

The five-star prospect held offers from schools across the country.

"I dont know if he will take any visits," Johnson said. "He is welcomed to take all the visits he wants to. That is up to him."

“I have always been an Alabama fan," said Nico Johnson in the spring. "They have a good program, and I grew up watching them.”

Andalusia will travel to Mobile Friday to play B.C. Rain.
