Christian Reed is busy at Notre Dame High School trying to prove this season that he has the ability to play linebacker for schools at the next level. Reed was probably the most productive pass rusher in the state of New Jersey last year, but because he is a ‘tweener, schools have been a bit hesitant to toss out offers to him before his senior year.
At 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, Lawrenceville, N.J., native Christian Reed falls in between the size of an outside linebacker and a defensive end which has caused some schools to pause in offering him, despite some impressive camp showings and gaudy junior year numbers. Reed will line up at defensive end this season, but will be playing with a chip on his shoulder, something that should put the fear in opposing offensive linemen and quarterbacks. We caught up with his father recently to see what’s going on with Reed.
“Christian has been in daily contact with a lot of different schools and coaches lately,” Christopher Reed explained. “He has been talking to Iowa State, UCLA, Colorado, Duke, Northwestern, New Hampshire, Richmond, Wofford, Pittsburgh, Army, Air Force and Navy. I have even spoken with several of the coaches and they all seem to like him.”
“Right now the consensus is that he is on their list and they’re simply awaiting his senior film to evaluate,” Reed added. “I have updated them on his 40-yard dash time and have also sent out his six semester unofficial transcripts. He has spoke with several of the coaches and this week when he spoke to the head coach at Air Force his coaches were told that they thought Christian was a “must get”.”
As a junior, Reed made 92 tackles, 44 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, forced three fumbles, recovered one, intercepted a pass, blocked two punts and had 13 hurries and nine knockdowns in nine games. He was named first-team All-County, All-Conference and All-League by the Trentonian.
