Jasper Simmons decided to end his recruitment several weeks ago. After looking over a handful of offers from several BCS conferences, Simmons decided to play for the Missouri Tigers next season. Go inside to read more.
"I've committed to the University of Missouri," stated Jasper Simmons. "I like everything about the school. It was the best fit for me."
What stood out about Missouri?
"They are a program on the rise. They have three senior safeties graduating next year. They are going to need help in the secondary right away. They feel I can help them. I've watched their safeties and I think they're getting better but I know I can help them. I also like the coaches. They are very down to earth and easy to talk to. I mainly talk to Coach Hill. He's a real cool guy."
What other schools were after Simmons?
"I had offers from Missouri, Memphis, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, UAB, Arizona and Ole Miss."
Does the talented Hutchinson Community College standout plan on taking any visits other than Missouri?
"No, I plan on only visiting Missouri. I'm going to try and go sometime in November or December. It all depends on our season. I really want to take my dad with me to see the campus."
Simmons attended high school at Booker T. Washington in Pensacola Florida. He admits his recruitment wasn't always this active.
"I didn't get any looks out of high school. My old high school coach is now at FIU. He put my highlight tape up on the internet and our coaches at Hutchinson saw it. They called me and told me they had to have me."
Simmons has been exactly what the Hutchinson coaches were looking for and stats back it up.
"I have 36 tackles, 4 or 5 breakups, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovered. I also have 80-90 yards on two kick returns."
The JuCo standout expects to graduate in May and plans on majoring in Business.
Simmons is an excellent tackler who is not afraid to come up and play the run. His 6'1 210lb frame allows him to play very physical and his 4.47 speed enables him to keep up with WRs stride for stride. Simmons also adjusts to the pass very well and has good closing speed. He needs to work on recognizing and reacting earlier in the play at the next level.
