Mississippi's top defensive tackle prospect has seen the good and the bad with the start of his senior season.
"There have been some good
points and some bad points," added Josh Boyd. The last two games, we got
a couple of things we needed fixed, fixed. It has been fun watching us turn it
around."
Is the 6' 3", 275 pounder happy with his play?
"I
started off a little flat, to be honest, but the last two games I did really good.
I have a high number of tackles (60 tackles, three sacks and a blocked punt for
a touchdown for the season) and my play has gotten better and better."
What
improvements has Scout.com's #23 nationally rated defensive tackle made
this season?
"My leadership really improved, and I am learning how
to play the whole game and not take plays off."
Josh committed to
MSU early in the recruiting process, but that has not stopped other colleges from
trying to change his mind.
"I still get calls, but they pretty much
know how I feel about MSU. But Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and LSU are still
calling and asking me what is up and checking things out."
The competing
colleges have one thing in common.
"They all tell me that they know
I am going to MSU, but they want me to know that they will be there for me just
in case I change my mind."
What attracted Boyd to Mississippi State?
"I
am just comfortable around their coaches. I like the way they approached me. It
was in a different way, and I like a lot of their players. That is why I liked
it and have stuck with (my commitment) it."
Although Josh remains
committed to MSU; some visits may be in store.
"I am thinking about
going to see LSU play Georgia. I think I might take a visit or two from those
schools who are calling me, but I have not set up anything. I am still solid with
MSU, but I might take a couple of visits"
