Lancaster Catholic High School has been ripping through playoff brackets like gangbusters this season and while a large part of it comes at the arm of junior Kyle Smith, senior Nick Schmalhofer deserves a lot of the credit as well. The Lancaster, Pa., product recently picked up his first scholarship offer and is hearing from a number of other programs.

Nick Schmalhofer, a 6-foot-3.5, 230-pound lineman from Lancaster Catholic High School grabbed his first offer this week from an FBS program and is hearing from plenty of others like Connecticut, Purdue, Villanova, William & Mary, Northwestern, Colorado State, Richmond, UNH, Syracuse, Bowling Green and Youngstown State as well.

“I got my first offer last night from Western Carolina who just said they want me to come in and play either offensive or defensive line,” Schmalhofer stated. “I know that the President of the university and the rest of the staff are putting a lot of money and support into making them a very competitive program right now and am going to be looking further into the school.”

“I also went to Connecticut to see them play WVU and the atmosphere there was great. It was the first game I’ve been to this year, so I really enjoyed myself up there. On Sunday I had the chance to go check out their facilities and I was absolutely blown away. I mean, it was jut out of control in there. I get along really well with the coaching staff as well, especially my recruiting coordinator Coach Hank Hughes.”

“I have already visited William & Mary and Villanova and will be traveling out to see Purdue play this weekend,” Schmalhofer explained. “They have been keeping in touch with me lately and say they have me right below the players they have already offered, so they want to just bring me out and eyeball me.”

Schmalhofer registered 60 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 14 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and five pass deflections as a junior. He was named first-team All-League on both sides of the ball.
