This year he finally threw the cleats back on again and with his combination of size, speed and athletic ability he could end up being a heavily recruited prospect on shear upside this year. Harold Spears has just about everything you want in a modern day tight end. He stars for his AAU basketball team, runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds and brings a 6-foot-5, 205-pound frame into the equation as well. Spears is already getting looks for scholarships on the hardwood at this point, but there is a great possibility that his future will end up in football when he leaves The Pennington School. “Right now I’m hearing a lot from Maryland, Connecticut, Boston College, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Michigan State,” Spears commented. “Maryland and Connecticut both came to the school to watch film on me, but I didn’t get the chance to speak with them because of the NCAA rules.” With this being his first year on the football field, Spears doesn’t know much about these schools recruiting him and is just trying to adjust to the game. “I know Maryland because I used to live near their campus when I was little, so I’ve been there plenty of times. I also watched their game against UNC recently and got to learn a bit about what they do. Other than them, I really know nothing about the others.” “To tell you the truth I’m just trying to get fundamentals down still,” Spears explained. “The last time I played organized football was in eighth grade, so as the season went along I got a lot more comfortable with things. At first I was like a deer in headlights a bit. Now I’ve gotten used to things and I’m starting to feel that passion for the game come into me that I’m comfortable out there.” It is unknown whether Spears will try to participate in both sports at the next level.
