The massive 6' 4", 340 pound Tennessee commit had a chance to
meet the Vols new head coach this evening.
"Coach Kiffin came by my
house tonight," added Aubrey Phillips. "He brought over Coach Akines
with him."
What was the new boss' message?
"He told me
the same things Coach Fulmer told me. He wanted me to know that I have a chance
to compete for a starting spot, but I will have to work for it. He said I have
a legit chance to come in and run with the first team. He wants to see what I
can do. But he also wanted me to know that school would be first, and I would
have to be disciplined and be on time for everything."
What stood
out during the visit?
"He was honest. Coach Kiffin said he did not
know who would be on his staff, but he knew for sure that he would be."
Any
concerns with the coaching change over?
"Yea, somewhat. I am going
to just sit back, take my visits, and go from there. I am still committed to Tennessee,
but I am going to take my visits. I have a lot to think about."
The
Olive Branch (MS) product also received an inhome visit from Mississippi's flag
ship university.
"Coach Markuson (from Ole Miss) came to my house
also. He told me that they are graduating two of their starters, and they are
looking to sign 6 or 7 quality linemen to take their place. They want me to come
over there and give them a look and give them a chance before I sign with Tennessee."
What
stood out during the inhome visit with Ole Miss?
"Just the fact that
they have some OL positions open. I can work hard and start as a freshman. They
need some replacements. I am a big guy. I just need to get in shape, and I can
be one of those replacements."
The Tennessee commit set up a visit
with the Rebels, along with several more schools.
"I am going to Oklahoma State this weekend, Arkansas on January 9th, Tennessee on January 15th, and Ole
Miss on January 22nd."
When did OSU get in the picture?
"When
they hired Trooper Taylor (former Vol assistant)."
And Arkansas?
"They
have been in the picture. I actually went up there last weekend to see them play
LSU. I have been talking to Coach Johnson for a while."
