Lancaster, Pa., native Nick Schmalhofer is a player that many Division I-AA coaches are saying is better than “a lot of Division I-A recruits” and that is showing as his offer list continues to grow and now some FBS level programs are trying to get in the mix as well.

In addition to the scholarship offers from Western Carolina, Rhode Island and Stony Brook that Lancaster Catholic defensive end Nick Schmalhofer already has picked up the 6-foot-3.5, 229-pound senior has also picked up two more offers recently and is getting some high praise from recruiters.

“Nick has been offered by Appalachian State and New Hampshire now as well and Wofford has said they will offer him on an official visit since the head coach hasn’t met him in person yet,” Bruno Schmalhofer said. “He’ll be taking his official visit to Appalachian State on January 16th.”

Connecticut and Colorado State have both flown in for in-home visits with him and have said he’s in the mix for an offer going into signing day.”

As a senior, Schmalhofer registered 72 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, eight sacks and six pass break ups. On offense he had 38 pancake blocks.
