The 6' 5 1/2", 325 pound left tackle out of Auburn High saw his stock rise
after a dominating performance in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game. The result
has been a scheduled official visit with Ole Miss and renewed interest from Auburn
and MSU. To learn more about John Sullen, read below.
Auburn finished their season 12-1 and their star left tackle could not be anymore
proud.
"Going into the season, a lot of people doubted us, especially our own students,"
added John Sullen. "So yea, it felt real good to prove everyone wrong and
being a big contributor for our team. This is the best season we have had since
I got here."
John has started at left tackle for the past 37 straight games and feels like
he has progressed throughout his high school career.
"I have started every game at left tackle since I was a sophomore, and I
feel like I have gotten better and better. I feel I improved every game. I knew
I had to be a senior leader in order for us to have the success we had this year.
That is the most satisfying part about it for me."
Sullen was named 1st Team All-State and All-Area for his play on the field, but
the biggest achievement came when he was selected to the MS/AL All-Star game.
"That was a good day, for sure. But I did not want to just get selected;
I wanted to show that I belonged."
John started at right tackle and D.J. Fluker started at left tackle for the Alabama
squad.
"I sprained my ankle earlier in the week, but I continued to play through
it. I had 7 or 8 pancakes, and I did not allow a sack."
Colleges took notice.
"Coach Markuson (Ole Miss) called me the next day and told me that I caught
his eye. He said they were looking for another tackle. They had been recruiting
me since my season started, but they picked it up after the All-Star game."
The Rebels were not the only SEC school who took notice.
"Auburn also called me and told me how excited they were about me. Their
new head coach told me that their offensive line coach was going to watch some
more film on me, and they were going to keep in touch. They called me the other
day and set up a meeting with me, so I drove over there on Monday and met with
their staff. They wanted me to meet all of them face to face. We had a good talk."
"MSU sent word through my coach that they liked me a lot. They hired an offensive
coach from South Alabama who had been recruiting me while he was over there. They
want to bring me in for a visit too."
Which schools has Sullen set up an official visit?
"I am going to USM this weekend, Ole Miss (1/16), and Memphis (1/30). I will
probably visit Auburn on the 23rd and try and take a midweek visit to MSU."
The Golden Eagles have been recruiting the Auburn product the longest.
"They started recruiting me the summer before last. They have been coming
after me hard. Their offensive line coach has been by my house three times. I
like their program, and I can't wait to see their campus Saturday."
Memphis was the first school to offer.
"They offered me last spring. They were one of my first offers, them and
Duke. My cousin goes to school there, and he tells me a lot of great things about
Memphis. I want to see it for myself. Coach Joseph is coming after me hard too."
