Lancaster, Pa., product Nick Schmalhofer continues to ride the crest of a wave of recruiting activity late in the process and has recently picked up his first FBS level offer from Eastern Michigan. His father Bruno Schmalhofer caught us up to date in a recent email.

“Last week the offensive line coach from Samford came in to meet with Nick and the rest of the family,” Mr. Schmalhofer said. “He saw his highlight film 48 hours before and loved Nick’s agility, how he used his hands and his aggressive attitude. He called the next day to offer Nick after getting Head Coach Pat Sullivan’s okay.”

“Also, Head Coach Ron English and his new staff at Eastern Michigan offered Nick as a defensive lineman last week,” Mr. Schmalhofer stated. “This is Nick’s first FBS level offer. A coach is visiting Nick at home this week to get him out on a visit as soon as possible.”

“We just returned from a long but exciting weekend having visited Appalachian State Friday to Sunday and turning around and visiting New Hampshire Monday and Tuesday. As of Saturday night Nick was the first offensive lineman offered by Appalachian State. UNH wants him at both defensive and offensive line.”

Nick Schmalhofer has since confirmed visits to Eastern Michigan on January 23rd and then Stony Brook on the 25th. Both schools are recruiting him to play defensive line. He was also selected to the Pennsylvania East-West All-Star Team as both an offensive and defensive lineman.
