The Midlands region, which runs from Texas to Montana, is dominated by the Lonestar state which consistently has the most signees from any state in the country. This year, however, it is a player from Kansas who sits at the top.
"Justin McCay is so highly rated because he is so versatile," says Baron Flenory, the Midlands regional manager for Scout.com. "He plays at a very high level on both offense and defense and when he turns it on, he is close to unstoppable. His unique combo of athletic ability, versatility, and productivity makes him such a special recruit thus warranting his initial 5 star ranking." Right on his tail are three players from Texas, including defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat from Plano West, running back Lache Seastruck out of Temple, and defensive tackle Taylor Bible from Guyer High in Denton, each rated as the numbers six, seven, and eleven prospects in the country regarless of position according to Scout.com. The Midlands region also claims a player who will vie for the title as top quarterback prospect over the course of the 2009 season as Blake Bell, another Kansas native, has the junior film to compete with any quarterback in the country. With 122 names on the Midlands 150, the state of Texas certainly flexes the same muscle that made it the nation's deepest state in the country for Division 1 signees for the last several seasons.
