The Scout.com Pre-season State Rankings for the Class of 2010 is finishing today with state rankings for Louisiana, New England, Utah, and West Virginia.

The Scout.com Louisiana Top 40 has a big-name wide receiver sitting at the top of the list and a long number of skill positions behind him.

"Trovon Reed is on top in Louisiana and he is one of the top playmakers in the South," said South regional manager Chad Simmons. "He is great in space, he plays the game with good speed, and he will only get better as he adds strength and weight in the coming years. He is a versatile athlete that is always dangerous when he touches the football and I expect for him to remain the number one player in Louisiana throughout the 2009 season.

"After Jordan Allen at number two, it is a run of skill guys. Not a lot of linemen in the top 15, but they balance the top 40 nicely in the second half of the rankings."

Bronson Kaufusi

The Utah Top 25 continues to gain depth, and the number of early commitments certainly takes the lead story for the state.

"Right now, 13 of the top 25 prospects in the state of Utah have already verbally committed to Division-1 colleges, a testament to the strength of the state's talent from top to bottom," said Scout.com Northwest analyst Chris Fetters. "The Beehive State came of age last year when such prospects as John Martinez and Xavier Su'a-Filo picked up some serious national acclaim, and this year is just more of the same.

"Timpview's Bronson Kaufusi is already an old hand, having gone up against Su'a-Filo for the past couple of years, so there isn't much that fazes the 6-foot-6 defensive end anymore. Ricky Heimuli is the second Heimuli in as many years to garner a ton of national interest as a defensive tackle. Pleasant Grove athlete Dallas Lloyd and Timpview safety Chris Badger have already verbally committed to Stanford."

Khari Fortt

The New England Top 10 has one of the nation's top linebackers and running backs leading the way in this preseason edition of the state rankings.

"The top of the New England rankings is as good as any state in the Northeast with outside linebacker Khairi Fortt and Penn State bound running back Silas Redd taking the top two spots," said North regional manager Bob Lichtenfels. "The most interesting prospect in the New England region may be defensive tackle Bjoern Werner from Salisbury, Mass., who spent last season overseas and is now back in the continental US. Werner is an absolute animal on film and has tremendous upside."

Two outstanding athletes headline the West Virginia Top Five and both players are committed to two in-state rivals Marshall and West Virginia.

"Wide receiver Raheem Waiters from Riverside is headed to Marshall. Waiters is a long, lean pass catcher who has the ability to spread the field," said Lichtenfels. "West Virginia commit Wes Tonkery from Bridgeport is a tall cornerback at 6-foot-1 and everyone is always looking for big corners to lock up the big receivers. Tonkery is very fast and an exceptional athlete."
