The Rayen School will no longer exist as the proud school it once was on Youngstown's North side after the 2006-07 school year. Chaney and a brand new East will be the lone high schools remaining in the city. Chaney had won the city title in football the last 16 years before Rayen finally knocked them off their throne last season. Senior Tomaz Hilton and junior Gary Thornton, two of Youngstown's finest prospects, will lead Rayen into battle for the final time during the 2006 season.

Gary Thornton, who plays linebacker and running back, thinks his future at the next level might be at safety.

At 5-8 and 187 pounds, Thornton is as an exciting player, pound-for-pound, that you'll find in the state. Ricky Williams, hence #34, happens to be his favorite football player.

"I kind of like defense but I can see myself playing running back too. I see myself playing anywhere. I like to play running back but personally I think I'm better on defense than offense. I think I'm a better defensive player, that's just in me."

Tomaz Hilton, who's played safety and wide receiver in his career at Rayen, could quietly become one of the best receivers in the state in 2006.

At 6-2 and 190, Hilton is a three-sport star with great leaping ability. He played only on offense last year but he'll play safety again in his senior season.

"I just want to be a playmaker for my team this year. I'm going step up and let them know that I'm here for them all year. Whatever this team needs me to do, that's what I'm going to do."

"I really want to go to O-State. I really like O-State. I'm young but I'm an OSU lean all the way. So if I could get there I would play my heart out for the Buckeyes."

"I'm just a kid looking to go to school. Any college is good for me, I wouldn't even care. I just want to go to school somewhere. I would love to see Ohio State come and see me. I'm think I'm worthy of that. It's very exciting."
