Comfort Won Over Sykes

Rae Sykes knew of his decision two days ago, but the four star defensive end from Alcoa, Tenn. decided to wait for signing day to announce his commitment. Today, Sykes decided to stay in-state.
"He signed with Tennessee," said Alcoa head coach Gary Rankin. "I think he was the most comfortable with Coach Brooks and Coach Fulmer. He really didn't say all that much about why he picked them."
Sykes, who visited the Vols last weekend, committed to Tennessee over Florida State. Rankin believes that the short drive to Knoxville was not a big part in the decision.
"I don't think it played that big a part. He had a great visit and just felt comfortable, so no, I don't think that had a big role."
