Youngstown Cardinal Mooney blasted to a 14-0 season in 2006 and an Ohio Division 4 State Championship. The Cardinal defense was led by three juniors, Brandon Beachum, Michael Zordich, and Daniel McCarthy. At least one of the Cardinal kids, Michael Zordich, who also stars at fullback, will be attending the U-M Junior Day next Saturday.

Cardinal Mooney defense was led by three juniors, linebackers Brandon Beachum (who has grown into a LB from a DB earlier in his career) and Michael Zordich, and DB Daniel McCarthy. This tro also led the charge on offense with McCarthy at quarterback, Beachum at running back and Zordich at fullback. Junior RB Jermalle Bowers is a 4th Cardinal star, although Brandon Beachum, once he came back from an early season injury, gradually took over more and more of the Cardinal TB duties.

Scout.com's Big 12 analyst Jeremy Patterson talked to the 6-2, 210 pound Zordich this week, because he received his first scholarship offer -- from LSU (one of the LSU assistants went to Mooney).

"LSU offered me early last week," Zordich told Patterson.

Zordich had a great season for Mooney -- as a fullback he gained (GoBlueWolverine's unofficial stats) 981 yards and scored 18 rushing touchdowns.

As far as Michigan interest, Zordich told Patterson, "Right now I know that I am going to Michigan's junior day on the 17th, but that's about it" as far as his current firm plans. He added, "I may go to one at Ohio State and Penn State."I may go to one at Ohio State and Penn State."

Zordich is getting a lot of Big Ten interest, saying, "Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State have already been by the school," Zordich said. "Some of the other Big 10 schools are also already recruiting me."

As far as schools he is considering, Zordich said, "I am definitely looking at LSU," Zordich said. "That is a serious school and they are my first offer. They may have had the best defense in the nation this year. Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame are some of the others I am looking at."

Michael is the son of former Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles safety, Michael Zordich.

will spend the next several days tracking down others who plan to attend the U-M Junior Day next Saturday.
