There has been a trend toward achieving a high level of athleticism on defense, and that has led to the recruiting of smaller defensive linemen. College coaches will often have to take DEs and bulk them up for the battles that take place along the interior LOS, so when a true DT comes along with the size and athleticism already in place, there is reason to celebrate.
