| Johnson is an effort player that also has the physical ability, coupled with outstanding technique, to be the top pure defensive end on the west coast. He's best when he's on the strong side, overpowering tight ends. Johnson has a phenomenal first step, and is able to stay low enough to win the leverage battle at the line of scrimmage. Runs very well for a player his size. |
| Biography: |
| Johnson logged approximately 80 tackles and 10 sacks as a junior. Early recruiting season buzz has him as being the best propsect to come out of the state of Oregon in several years; He benches 330 pounds and claims a 30-inch vertical jump.
Johnson reports a 3.1 core GPA and a 20 ACT, which he will most likely retake. "I didn't study at all for it and I think I can do better." He'll take his SAT in June.
Johnson: "I feel like I've got good technique. I get good leverage and can get low. I get off the ball quickly too. My defensive line coach is Shawn Price and he was a defensive end in the NFL (Detroit Lions) for 10 years.
"I'm trying to get faster and more powerful in my hips," he said. "I'm doing a lot of power cleans and jumping rope a lot. I want to have a quicker burst."
