Named the Modesto Bee's 2007 Player of the Year for the second straight year. Logged 63 tackles, rushed for 1,763 yards and scored 32 touchdowns. He also set the career touchdown mark for the section with 102. He'll come to Washington State as a strong safety.
In 2006, he led Modesto (Calif.) Central Catholic to the CIF- Sac-Joaquin Section title. Earned all-state underclass honors in 2006 and named State Junior Athlete of the Year. Finished the season with 1,876 yards and 29 touchdowns. Returned 13 punts for 233 yards (17.92 avg). Added 74 tackles and three quarterback sacks with two picks.
Was the California State Finalist in the 171-lb class in wrestling and is ranked 5th nationally at 171. One of the premier wrestlers in the country, Bland is also a USA Wrestling National Team member at 189. Was the sectional champion.
