As a junior, McCoy caught 29 passes for nearly 900 yards, averaging a blistering 30 yards per catch. He also notched 78 tackles, seven sacks and two interceptions including one that he returned for a touchdown. McCoy was a key player in Amherst's state championship run last season.
Amherst Head Coach Scott Abell says:
“He’s such a powerful young man at nearly 6-foot-4, 210 pounds and is a 4.55 kid. He’s very explosive and dynamic for high school football, just like you would expect for someone going to Virginia Tech. He can go and get up over smaller defensive backs. There are games he takes over both sides of the ball and that’s why he’s heading to Virginia Tech. He'll probably play wide receiver for the Hokies, but they see him as a guy that could play on either side of the ball. I think that is another attractive thing about him. He could probably also play whip or rover there."
