2007: Smelley threw for 3,022 yards and 33 touchdowns. He also rushed for 626 yards and 13 touchdowns while on defense he recorded 124 tackles. Smelley was awarded all-state by the ASWA as their athlete for region 2A.
Smelley was named West Alabama All-Star by Tuscaloosa News and 2A Player of the Year. Birmingham News honored him as State Player of the Week November 25th after a 12 for 16 269 yard passing performance adding to his 13 rushes for 160 yards. ScoutSouth.com Star of Alabama.
Smelley excels in two sports and will play football and baseball for Alabama. He completed 183-of-264 passes for 2,611 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2006. He plays shortstop for American Christian batting .511 for his junior season with 11 home runs.
