Schools Giving Payne a Hard Look
A cornerback by trade, Leviticus Payne played free safety over the weekend during the Badger Sport 7 on 7 tournament in Pittsburgh and looked like he had played the position his whole life. Payne was one of the tournament leaders in interceptions, gobbling up nearly every pass that went in his direction. The 5'8, 175-lb junior landed verbal offers from Iowa and Toledo last year, and is looking to add to that list with more performances like the one he just had. "I've visited Bowling Green and Michigan State recently," he reported. "Bowling Green said come to their camp. They've seen my film and stuff, but they want me to come to their camp. MSU, same thing, they want me to come to their camp and they're going to come to my games this year and see me play." That visit to Michigan State had Payne thinking he could easily see himself as a Spartan. "It was one of my favorite schools in the state." Payne also says Penn State, Tennessee, and Oregon State have begun showing interest lately along with several others. "Michigan, they send me written letters. They want to see me at camp and are going to see me play too. Central Michigan is saying they're probably going to offer me. I went down there. It was a nice campus." As for the Iowa Hawkeyes, who have offered already, Payne said, "I keep getting mail from them. I have to go down there for a visit." He also plans to go south. "With the team, we're going to go down to Alabama and Auburn for 7 on 7 tournaments, so I might visit those schools while I'm there."
