With the maturity that Jamone Boyd (a member of Missouri's 5A State Championship squad) radiates in…
Tigers No. 1 for Boyd
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Lee's Summit (MO) West standout stayed busy this offseason. "I did three sports- basketball, track, and lacrosse," said Boyd. "I also had two weight classes during school, so it kept me in shape." Boyd says football is, hands down, his favorite sport- and the one he's best at. But attributes being a multi-sport athlete to helping his game on the gridiron. It's kept him quick and agile, and his mind fresh. And this, in turn, with his size, has attracted several college coaches. "I'm hearing a lot from Alabama, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Kansas, and Missouri," Boyd notes. Though it's early in the process for the soon-to-be-junior, he admits Mizzou is already standing out. Which is why he was all smiles at the Tigers' camp Tuesday. "I just like the home feeling at Missouri," he said. "The coaches are real cool. I get along with all of them. And it's close to home." Is staying close to home important to him? "It really doesn't matter right now. My parents want me to though." Boyd reports none of the schools have offered. "I'm only a sophomore," he says. However, he's confident some will come soon. As for other camps he'll be attending this summer, "I'm going to Alabama's one-day camp next week. But I don't know about any others." All he knows is he's working especially hard on improving his speed this offseason. Running a reported 4.8 forty, the DE wants to shave it down a tenth of a second or two.
