We're halfway through the regular-season in Louisiana, so it's time to issue awards to well…
Louisiana Friday Night Notebook
Sophomore Trey Quinn scored all five of Barbe's touchdowns vs. undefeated St. Thomas More, and he's only a sophomore. "We came into tonight's game with a chip on our shoulder," said Quinn (16 catches, 335 yards, three TDs). "I give all the credit for my success to our offensive line. They gave our quarterback (Keenan Fontenot) time to throw. Everybody talks about how young this team is, and we have a lot of talent. Keenan is a sophomore and we've been playing together since we were five years old. We have chemistry and people can look forward to us scoring a lot of points over the next couple of years." Quinn is so good in baseball that there's already speculation about where he'll be drafted out of high school. Quinn also scored on two touchdown runs vs. St. Thomas More. Nationally-ranked Carencro demolished Sam Houston, 65-0. The Bears led at the half by a 51-0 margin. RB Alex Johnson, who entered the contest as the state's leading rusher, gained 219 yards on seven carries with four TDs. The senior has 1,180 yards and 15 touchdowns through five games. Walker handed Class 2A No. 2 West St. Mary its first loss of the year (21-19). Junior RB Carlton Perkins ran for 357 yards and a trio of scores. It appears that Perkins (1,191 yards) now occupies the top spot among the state's leading rushers. Last week, Perkins ran for 373 yards. His team has won two in a row after beginning the year 0-3. WR Travin Dural (LSU commit) grabbed three TD passes -- including the game-winner late in the fourth quarter -- as Breaux Bridge (5-0) survived at Woodlawn-BR. The Tigers won, 49-42. Woodlawn WR Jamaal Lofton was impressive in defeat. Breaux Bridge running backs Lamar Louis and Adrian Menard are both punishing runners. Louis left the game late in the fourth quarter due to injury but is expected to play next week. Class 3A No. 1 Patterson (4-0) throttled Berwick, 59-6. Three-star Houston commit Trevon Stewart (pictured below) accounted for two TDs (one rushing, one punt return). St. Paul's (No. 1 in 5A per LSWA polls, No. 2 by Scout.com) moved to 5-0 with a convincing 48-14 rout of Mandeville (4-1). Scotlandville rallied from a 20-6 deficit to squeeze past McKinley, 27-26. Junior WR Larry Clark had five catches and a TD that gave the Hornets (5-0) the lead. In a battle of LSU commits, Class 4A No. 5 O.P. Walker (four-star CB Dwayne Thomas) jumped all over Class A No. 4 West St. John (four-star LB Ronnie Feist). Final: O.P. Walker 44, West St. John 6 Teurlings Catholic QB and UL (Lafayette) commit Dshaie Landor threw for 264 yards and three TDs in his team's win over Crowley. The senior added 99 yards on the ground. Cecilia RB D'Andre Dartez lifted his club to a 32-20 victory over St. Louis Catholic, gathering 273 yards rushing (and two TDs) in the process. Nick Julien scored five touchdowns as Loreauville unloaded on Hamilton Christian, 61-16. A senior RB, Julien has 952 yards rushing with 11 touchdowns for the 2A-ranked Tigers (4-1). Noel Ellis (junior CB) had a pick-six for Edna Karr, which walked over Miller-McCoy Academy, 48-2. Ellis has three interceptions this year.
