Lissard Hearing From Two
Joe Lissard finished the regular season as the state's fifth-leading passer, but he could easily claim the top spot before it's all said and done. Only one QB ahead of Lissard on the list - Hayden Hildebrand of Airline - plays on a team that is still alive in the playoffs. Through 10 games, Lissard littered secondaries for 2,283 yards and 26 TDs with only seven picks. Last night, he added 265 additional yards through the air with four touchdowns in No. 4 Catholic-New Iberia's 42-0 rout of No. 29 Sterlington in a 2A playoff opener. "We're doing really well," said Lissard of his team's 10-1 mark. "We're working hard and not taking anyone lightly. We played well (vs. Sterlington). The offensive line did well and our receivers had a good game." Although Catholic went 3-7 in 2010, the Panthers' success has not been a surprise to Lissard. "I thought we'd be this good," he said. "I have a lot of confidence in our group of players. I'm starting to get mail from UL (Ragin' Cajuns) and Tulane. I'm very interested in UL. I've seen them play this year, and I like the way they have pride in their program. Coach (Michael) Desormeaux (Catholic offensive coordinator) played at UL and my brother also goes there." Lissard has two former teammates at Tulane: Taylor Bullock and Devin Boutte. "I've been getting stuff from Tulane regularly," Lissard said. "Tulane and UL are the main two I'm hearing from." Next Friday, Catholic hosts No. 13 Welsh (9-2) in the second round. "I don't know much about (Welsh) but we'll find out more on Monday after the coaches get film," said Lissard. "We're going to keep taking things week by week and put everything on the line. We need to be physical."
