THE VAST AMOUNT of attention on letter-of-intent signing day tends to focus on the blue chippers, but a deeper look at the 2012 crop of high school athletes from the state of Washington who will be getting full rides reveals a number of interesting subplots.

Among them: Oregon State may have to change its name to Southern Washington University.
