Player Intro: TE Blake Braun

Redlands East Valley Tight End Blake Braun

Redlands (Calif.) East Valley tight end Blake Braun is keeping busy, playing baseball for the Wildcats, potentially taking some collegiate visits, and training with his team.

Redlands (Calif.) East Valley tight end Blake Braun plays both baseball and football for the Wildcats, but wants to pursue the latter on the next level.

"Football is what I want to continue playing," he said.

Braun hasn't had a busy recruiting experience quite yet, but he is hearing from a few programs.

"I haven't had much contact with schools yet. I've been getting a lot of letters and I heard Duke was interested in me, but that's about it," he said.

He does know one thing; wherever he goes, he wants to make sure he winds up with a good education.

"I'm just looking for a good program that has good academics. If I could get into USC or UCLA, that would be awesome. I also love Arizona State and San Diego State. I kind of want to stay in the western region," he said.

Braun is also planning on taking a few trips this summer to check out some programs.

"I think I'm going to go to San Jose State and San Diego State's camps over the summer," he said.

Aside from playing baseball, Braun is also putting in the hours training with the football team to improve his skills at the position.

"I think my best quality as a tight end is my hands. I can catch the ball while getting hit. I can take hits, I'm tough. In the off-season, I'm working on getting better routes and improving my speed, doing the Fast Twitch that our coach, Kurt Bruich, just opened," he said.

Aside from personal growth as a player, Braun feels that that with the effort and time the team has put into the off-season, the upcoming season looks promising.

"We're working on making our offense more explosive and our defense has a lot of players return (including one of California's top prospects, defensive end Kylie Fitts), so we're going to be just as good on defense. We're just looking to see who's going to step up on the offensive side of the ball. If our running back, Taylor Thompson, can stay healthy, I think we'll be pretty good," he said.
