OT Lazard Picks WVU
Marcell Lazard was heading to Morgantown, W.V., to make sure he loved the school, but he had no idea what would take place as Saturday wore on. However, after feeling the vibe of the program and watching the spring game, the Bloomfield (N.J.) High offensive tackle knew he found a home. He told the Mountaineers coaching staff he wanted to be a Mountaineer, and then gave Scout.com a call. "I wanted to let you know I committed to West Virginia," Lazard said. "I've been up there three times and really liked it. It's a great atmosphere, a great coaching staff, a great school." He is the first member of West Virginia's 2013 class. Lazard, who is 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, was leaning toward West Virginia for a while, and was close to committing before Florida and Ohio State moved into the picture. He is ranked No. 42 in the nation at offensive tackle by Scout.com. However, the more Lazard thought about it, the more he knew where he wanted to be a Mountaineer. "They're a winning team, and you get a great education," he said. "They have my major (special education) and the academic support here is good." Lazard also likes the way he fits into the offensive line mold of the Mountaineers. "I like the way they play on the offensive line," he said. "You have to be very athletic to play it and I'm looking forward to the challenge." Although Lazard was on campus all day, he really didn't get the feeling commit until he was watching the spring game. After it, he met with the coaching staff and informed them of his decision. "Coming here, I didn't think I was going to (commit)," he said. "But then I thought about it and talked about it with my family, I decided to do it." Lazard wasn't sure how he was going to celebrate, but he knows his mind is at ease. "I'm extremely excited to have this over with," he said.
