Williamstown (N.J.) linebacker Buddy Brown spent the weekend at Rutgers to watch another spring…
Three stand out to Brown after WVU visit
It was a rainy Saturday in Morgantown, but that didn't interfere with the Mountaineers' annual Gold-Blue spring game. "The best thing about West Virginia was definitely being around the fans and how passionate they are for West Virginia football," Buddy Brown said about his trip to see the team in action. "They follow recruiting there and knew my name, so it was really cool. The atmosphere was crazy and the fans were crazy despite the weather." The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker was impressed by the Mountaineers' stingy defense, who prevailed over Geno Smith's high-powered attack. That says a lot, he said. "It's scary to see how many points WVU will put up in the Big 12 with such an explosive offense, but their offense had a tough challenge with the defense. The defense wasn't giving up a whole lot. I like the way they use their linebackers. They blitz a lot and are just really fast." West Virginia was the first program to offer the Williamstown, NJ., native, but not the only one he is considering. Three currently stand out. "Rutgers has always stood out, and Penn State and West Virginia. WVU and Rutgers were my first two offers. Rutgers is the home state school, and I have a cool relationship with them. WVU was the first to offer. PSU is a school everyone looks at in this area. They are the big powerhouse, almost like the Alabama here." In June he expressed an interest in visiting UVa, North Carolina and Mississippi State, but Buddy's next visit will be at Rutgers, an hour and 15 minutes from his New Jersey home for the Scarlet Knight's spring game Apr. 28.
