Crimson Tide offers Washington
Prior to Tuesday, Jacory Washington held three offers, and the 2014 playmaker has since added three more from the SEC - from LSU, Texas A&M and Alabama. "This is the week I've been waiting on," said Washington, who pulled his initial trio of offers from the in-state Ragin' Cajuns (his first), Florida Atlantic and Illinois. Early this week, Washington camped at LSU (and was offered by Coach Les Miles). He followed up with visits to Texas A&M (where head coach Kevin Sumlin offered) and Alabama. "When I got to Alabama, I met with Coach (Burton) Burns, the RBs coach," said Washington. "I met the rest of the staff and the offensive coordinator, Doug Nussmeier (also oversees the QBs). "After we toured the facilities and watched a video at the stadium, I met with Coach (Nick) Saban for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. He offered - and said he wants me to be part of their program. He talked about life after football - academics come first." What was Washington's reaction to the offer? "I like everything about Alabama," he said. "The emphasis on academics stood out; so did walking into the stadium, which is huge. The facilities are real nice. "It's just a blessing. When I talked with Coach Saban and the staff, they said I would fit in well with their offense, but they didn't talk about specific situations (many programs want Washington to be a 'modern TE' - play tight when needed and split out on other occasions). "Coach Saban said he thinks I'm a great player; he's looking forward to seeing me play in the future." Washington's dad, Gerard Williams, accompanied his son on all three trips this week. "We enjoyed yesterday (in Tuscaloosa) and also enjoyed Texas A&M," said Williams, who doesn't miss anything when it comes to Jacory's recruitment. "Alabama talked about both personal development and academic development. I was really impressed with Coach Saban. We had a great conversation with him. Alabama is upgrading their facilities, too. They have a lot of money pouring into the program - with some of the best facilities around anywhere." Williams is well-informed with his college football and recruiting knowledge. "It was amazing how Texas A&M moves the ball all around on offense under Coach Sumlin," he said. "We're waiting to see how A&M does in the SEC. "It's going to be hard for Jacory to decide." Dad said he is "biased" as an LSU Tiger fan. He added that both Texas A&M and Alabama are recruiting Westlake '14 QB Tyler Johnson, who is teammates with Jacory in both football and basketball. Washington is also close pals with '14 WR Trey Quinn from Barbe HS in Lake Charles. Quinn and Washington hail from the same corner of the state, and both were offered by LSU at camp.
