Tyler Makes His Pledge
With offers from Ivy League schools and some of the top academic schools in the country, Ohio defensive end Mike Tyler found the perfect mix of academics and football and made his verbal pledge. For Tyler, (Brecksville-Broadview Heights, OH) the recruiting process allowed him a chance to look at many schools that would fill his needs for high academics and quality football. On Sunday, Tyler found the perfect fit after spending the weekend at Vanderbilt. "I'm doing great," said Mike Tyler. "I just committed to Vanderbilt today. The coaching staff, the players and the people, I loved everything. The football is up and coming and it's awesome and I'm just pumped." Tyler, who visited for a summer camp, returned this weekend for a second look. "I visited when I went to camp," said Tyler. "We made another trip here this weekend and I just finished the visit. I spent Saturday with the coaches and player watching two-a-days and then today I had a meeting with the coaches and committed. "I loved everything I saw and I just love the city of Nashville." "My recruiting coach was (assistant) coach (Charles) Walker," said Tyler. "But the coach I spent the most time with was defensive line coach Sean Spencer. I just love coach Spencer, his energy and everything about him." As for the perfect fit, Tyler found the best of both worlds. "They are recruiting me as a defensive end," said Tyler. "I'm 6-foot-5, 220-pounds right now. I'm looking to study engineering and they have a great program to offer me. They also play in the SEC and there is no better conference to play in." Tyler will graduate on time and report to campus next June to start his career with the Southeastern Conference program.
